The Phillies snapped a five-game losing streak by winning the first game of Friday's scheduled doubleheader in D.C.

The second game was rained out, necessitating a split doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Phils temporarily built their lead back to one game over the Brewers for the final National League wild-card spot.

Their magic number is five. It could drop to four if the Brewers lose at home to the Marlins Friday night.

The Phillies are 84-72 and hold the tiebreaker over the 83-73 Brewers.

The Brewers have three more games this weekend with the Marlins. They finish up at home against the Diamondbacks while the Phillies end in Houston.

There could be an entertaining pitchers' duel Friday night at American Family Field with 2022 NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes facing likely 2023 NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara. While the Marlins are just 65-91, their best three starting pitchers are going the rest of the weekend in Alcantara, Edward Cabrera and Pablo Lopez.

A massive NL East series also begins Friday with the Mets hosting the Braves. Jacob deGrom opposes Max Fried. The Mets are 98-58, a game up on the 97-59 Braves.
