MLB notebook: Farquhar critical with brain aneurysm

White Sox right-handed reliever Danny Farquhar suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in stable but critical condition in a Chicago hospital on Saturday, the team announced.

Farquhar, 31, passed out in the dugout during the sixth inning of Friday night's game against the Houston Astros. Overnight testing revealed that a ruptured aneurysm caused the brain bleed.

Farquhar, 1-1 in eight appearances this season, faced four batters and threw 15 pitches to get the final two outs in the top of the sixth before he passed out after the inning. The team said Farquhar was conscious when he was taken from Guaranteed Rate Field to the Rush University Medical Center.

Farquhar signed with the White Sox on July 24, 2017. He has played for three other teams over seven big league seasons. He has a 10-15 record and 3.93 ERA in 253 regular-season games.

--Matt Harvey will not take his next turn in the rotation and instead will head to the bullpen after another rough outing, Mets manager Mickey Callaway said.

Jason Vargas will start in San Diego next weekend, and Harvey will be available in the bullpen by Tuesday, Callaway said.

Harvey, 29, gave up six runs, all earned, in six innings in a 12-4 loss against visiting Atlanta on Thursday. He gave up four earned runs in each of the two outings before that and his record sits at 0-2 with an ERA of 6.00. He's given up 26 hits, four of them home runs, in 21 innings.

--The New York Yankees will call up their top prospect, Gleyber Torres, according to multiple reports Saturday. The 21-year-old infielder reportedly will join the Yankees ahead of Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. The club has not confirmed the move.

Torres was batting. 370 with 11 RBIs in 13 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the International League after competing for the starting second base job in spring training.

--Baltimore Orioles left fielder Trey Mancini was not in the lineup after injuring his right knee Friday against the Cleveland Indians, but he said he doesn't expect to miss more than a few days.

He received stitches to repair a wound after he ran into the wall down the left-field line. Postgame X-rays were negative. Mancini said a CT scan also was negative.

Mancini was chasing a foul fly and slid into the wall in an area just below the padding. He is batting .284 with two homers and seven RBIs in 20 games this season.

--The New York Yankees have placed reliever Adam Warren on the 10-day disabled list with a strained back, the team announced.

The right hander threw 46 pitches in 2 2/3 relief innings in an 8-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. Warren, 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in eight games, is the 11th Yankees player to go on the disabled list this season.

The team called up right-hander Jonathan Holder from Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place.
