MLB betting: Taking the Marlins to not score runs is the best bet in sports lately

The Miami Marlins have a bad offense. That's no secret.

One of the craziest streaks in the betting world is becoming well known, too.

For almost three weeks, all bettors had to do was wake up, bet under on the Marlins team total and profit. The under hasn't lost in Miami's last 16 games, which is an astounding run of ineptitude from one team.

Action Network, and others, pointed it out on Monday:

And then on Monday the total went down to 3 at some sportsbooks, and the Marlins pushed. They won 3-0 against the San Diego Padres. Still no losses on that bet for the under on the Marlins team total this month.

Marlins haven't been scoring

The start of the streak dates back to Aug. 1 when the Marlins lost 3-1 to the Cincinnati Reds.

Since then the Marlins have not scored more than three runs. The offensive issues have been going on a while. The Marlins were shut out three straight times, twice before the all-star break and one afterward. Since then Miami has scored more than three runs just four times.

The Marlins still aren't last in MLB in runs scored — the Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland A's and Detroit Tigers are all worse over the full regular season — but Miami has been really bad lately. Over the last 30 days the Marlins have scored just 62 runs via Fangraphs, 21 runs fewer than any other team. It's an amazing 90 runs fewer than the Los Angeles Dodgers over the last 30 days.

The Marlins just can't hit, and bettors are profiting off it.

Marlins team total keeps going under

You can bet the Marlins under 3.5 for Tuesday night's game against the Padres, but the odds are -155 at BetMGM.

At some point the Marlins will break out and score a few runs and their team total will go over. Streaks in the sports betting world don't last forever. The odds will keep shifting with more attention being brought to the Marlins' weird streak.

But the Marlins' offensive problems aren't going away. Even if the streak ends soon, another one might not be far behind.
