Mitchell's Hagerty, Hanson's Kayser post first-place finishes at Class A state powerlifting meet

Mar. 21—SIOUX FALLS — A pair of Mitchell-area lifters posted top finishes at the Class A state powerlifting meet on March 16 at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School.

Mitchell's Meagan Hagerty was the top lifter in the girls 48-kilogram class, while Hanson's Weston Kayser won the boys 67.5-kilogram class.

Hagerty's three-lift total of 495 pounds included marks of 250 on deadlift, 150 on squat and 95 on bench press. She bested Sioux Falls Lutheran's Anesha Bright (465 pounds) in a two-person class.

Meanwhile, Kayser posted a three-lift total of 1,010 pounds, featuring 425 on deadlift, 325 on squat and 260 on bench, to top a class of nine lifters. Mitchell Christian's Jason Baas came in second with total of 965 pounds (340 squat, 220 bench and 405 deadlift).

Elsewhere in the boys competition, Josh Brandt, also of Mitchell Christian, was second in the 75-kilogram class with a total of 1,025 pounds (355 squat, 240 bench and 430 deadlift). Baltic's Jackson Westerbur won the class with a score of 1,110 pounds. Mitchell's Dustin Kurtenbach was sixth with a total of 895 pounds, and Avon's Treyvan Talsma was 10th at 720 pounds.

Mick Dailey, of Mitchell, finished second at boys 82.5 kilograms with a three-lift mark of 1,100 pounds (410 squat, 230 bench and 460 deadlift). Dell Rapids' Tollin Peterson edged Dailey for the top place, posting 1,115 pounds. Hanson's Stetson Riggs was ninth in the class as 865 pounds and Mitchell's Jase Bamsey was 10th at 805 pounds.

Avon's Lance Odens was sixth in the boys 90-kilogram class with a total of 955 pounds. Other area lifters in the class included Hanson's Brayden Bahmuller (865 pounds), Mitchell's Noah Gruenstein (850), Avon's Jaylen Beeson (840) and Mitchell's Brenden Wantoch (785).

A pair of Mitchell lifters slotted into the top eight of the boys 100-kilogram class, with Quintin Spitzer's 895 pounds good for fourth place and Xander Fergen in eighth at 490 pounds.

Brady Wilson, of Mitchell, lifted a total of 1,200 pounds to finish third in the boys 110-kilogram class, posting marks of 435 pounds on squat, 255 on bench and 510 on deadlift. Sioux Falls Chrisitian's Paul Hoekman took first place at 1,385 pounds. With 820 pounds lifted, Mitchell's Jacob Reichenberg was 10th in the class.

Hanson's Trent Kayser was sixth within the boys 125-kilogram class at 980 pounds lifted. Mitchell's William Hagmann (855 pounds) and Hanson's Bridger Yeo (775) were eighth and ninth, respectively.

In the boys 140-kilogram weight class, Mitchell's Bon Weeks was fourth with a final mark of 1,055 pounds lifted.

Mitchell's Chailyn Priebe was fourth in the girls 60-kilogram class with a total of 455 pounds lifted.

Autumn Lentz and Macey Linke, both of Mitchell, finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the girls 75-kilogram class. Lentz notched a total of 580 pounds lifted, while Linke had 485 pounds.
