Tennis Mitchell girls tennis wins twice at home, improves to 8-1 in duals
Sep. 1—MITCHELL — Mitchell's girls tennis team improved to 8-1 on the season in duals on Friday with a pair of wins over Eastern South Dakota Conference competition.
The Kernels won 7-2 over Pierre and 6-3 over Yankton at Hitchcock Park.
Against Yankton, Mitchell earned wins in four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests. Carsyn Weich and Elly Clement won 10-0 in their Flight 2 doubles match, and both were winners in their singles matches. Matteah Graves was a 10-1 winner in her No. 6 singles match.
Graves also won 10-0 in her singles match against Pierre, as did Weich at No. 3 singles. Megan Mastel won 10-7 in her Flight 2 contest and Katie Morgan did the same at No. 4 singles. Mitchell won two of the three doubles matches, with Sophia Huber and Mastel teaming up at No. 1 doubles for a 10-6 win and Morgan and Graves winning 10-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Mitchell will be busy over the Labor Day weekend, facing Aberdeen Central, Brandon Valley and Huron in duals, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Hitchcock Park. On Monday, Mitchell will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 3 p.m. in a dual at Hitchcock Park.
