Missouri man convicted of child sex abuse sentenced to a total 628 years in prison

A child sex abuser from southwest Missouri was sentenced to more than 600 years in prison for 10 felony convictions.

The jury that convicted Daniel Franklin, 62, of rural Joplin, in April recommended that he be sentenced to six terms of 99 years, three of 30 years and one of four years.

On Monday, Jasper County Circuit Judge Dean Dankelson followed the jury’s recommendations. With some sentences running concurrently and others consecutively, Franklin was sentenced to a total of 628 years in prison, The Joplin Globe reported.

Franklin was convicted of three counts each of statutory rape and sodomy, two counts of child molestation and single counts of enticement of a child and unlawful use of a weapon.

The convictions are related to crimes committed against three young females between 2015 and 2017. Five teenage girls testified at Franklin’s trial.

Franklin began sexually abusing the primary victim, the girl named in seven of the counts, when she was 11.
