Misericordia honoring local attorney at commencement

May 2—Misericordia University is honoring attorney and trustee emeritus Murray Ufberg at its May 15 commencement ceremonies.

Ufberg, a partner with Rosenn, Jenkins and Greenwald LLP, will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters Degree during a ceremony honoring undergraduate students from the College of Arts and Sciences and Business.

Misericordia's 95th annual commencement will a series of three undergraduate ceremonies and a fourth ceremony for graduate students. The four ceremonies will honor a total of 400 graduates from all three University Colleges.

Ufberg served as a Misericordia trustee for 30 years and was awarded trustee emeritus status in 2015 upon his retirement from the board.

He was appointed as a commissioner of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Independent Regulatory Review Commission by two governors and as a past member of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. He serves or has served on the boards of numerous community organizations including The Commonwealth Medical College (Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine), M&T Bank Advisory Board for NEPA, and was President of the Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Federation and Congregation Ohav Zedek One of his passions over the years has been to assist in the economic growth of the local business economy.

Ufberg is the past chairman of the Luzerne County Business Roundtable, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry and the United Way of Wyoming Valley.

He's a graduate of Bucknell University and earned his law degree from Duquesne University.

Ufberg was repeatedly recognized as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" and earned multiple community service awards.

Ufberg and his wife, Margie, have three children and seven grandchildren.
