The news on Friday that Shohei Ohtani had signed with the Los Angeles Angels caught everyone by surprise. Ohtani had two more weeks to make his decision, but he had made up his mind and obviously didn’t want to waste any more time.

MLB players, who are now Ohtani’s teammates and colleagues, were just as surprised as fans. Let’s check in with Ohtani’s new Angels teammates and see how they’re handling this extremely exciting news. First up? None other than the great Mike Trout.

The only shocking thing about this is that Trout didn’t use a weather related emoji to describe his surprise and excitement. Justin Upton was a little more descriptive about his enthusiasm.

Imagining Justin Upton actually doing that is thoroughly delightful. But Upton and Trout weren’t the only Angels to be thrilled online. Several spared some fire emojis for the occasion.

Some of the best reactions came from non-Angels players, A.K.A. players who are sad that they don’t get to play with Ohtani, and will have to face him on either side of the dish in the coming years.

At least they all have a sense of humor about it, right? Though this tweet from Yu Darvish is very cryptic. Is he even talking about Ohtani?

What does it mean, Yu!? Tell us!

Even former players got in on the action.

But most importantly: former Angels great Vlad Guerrero, what do you think about the Ohtani signing?

I think he’s excited.
