Bees, and Mike Trout, take over Rangers-Angels game

ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 06: Mike Trout #27 is congratulated by Jesus Feliciano #62 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as rounds the bases after hitting a grand slam home run in the fourth inning of the game against the Texas Rangers at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on April 6, 2019 in Anaheim, California. The only thing scarier for the Texas Rangers than facing Mike Trout: a massive swarm of bees that descended upon Angel Stadium.

The Rangers-Angels game hit a snag on Sunday when bees forced a delay in the fifth inning, something that has happened repeatedly in Anaheim.

Angel Stadium attacked by bees

The bullpens were hit particularly hard, with Angels reliever Hansel Robles resorting to covering himself with towels to avoid the stings.

The Rangers bullpen’s effort to stand strong against the bees wasn’t much more valiant, as a good number of them simply fled their own territory.

Really, it just looked like a bad time for everyone.

The swarm eventually dissipated, but the Rangers were left with another problem in the opposing center fielder.

Mike Trout’s homer streak hits 4 games

An inning after the bee attack, the Rangers were hit with a Trout attack.

That homer gave Trout four straight games with a deep ball, tying another streak in May 2017 for his personal best. It also gave the Angels a 6-2 lead, which was soon stretched to 7-2 when Brian Goodwin homered an inning later.

Trout is now hitting .393/.571/1.000 through 42 plate appearances and has looked even more unstoppable than usual.

There’s a very good chance the Angels are underpaying for their superstar.
