Add another three-star recruit with plenty of strong offers to Michigan State football’s 2022 recruiting class.

Tight end Jack Nickel announced his commitment to the Spartans via Twitter on Thursday. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder from Alpharetta, Georgia, decommitted from Notre Dame in April and picked Mel Tucker’s program. In doing so, he turned down overtures from California, Virginia Tech, LSU, Florida State, Kentucky and eight other Big Ten programs.

Also a highly regarded baseball player who pitches and plays first base, third base and outfield, Nickel was a first-team all-state selection i by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Georgia Public Broadcasting as a junior in 2021 for state 7A champion Milton High. He initially planned to enroll early at Notre Dame.

Nickel visited MSU in early June after the NCAA ended the dead period. He is ranked as the No. 23 tight end and No. 509 prospect nationally according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He becomes the Spartans’ fourth player from Georgia and joins Michael Masunas from Arizona as MSU's second tight end in the 2022 class.

The Spartans now have 14 commitments and are ranked No. 9 in the Big Ten and No. 36 nationally in 2022 by 247Sports.
