Game notes: The Spartans will try to bounce back from a neutral-site loss vs. the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks to open the regular season. MSU wasn't expected to win the game but played well spurts. Too many turnovers, though, cost the Spartans a chance at an upset to begin the year. A.J. Hoggard led MSU with 17 points. WMU is coming off a 76-58 win Wednesday over Division III Hope College. The Broncos were led by 23 points from Lamar Norman Jr. that night and are coming of a tough 13-19 season. MSU has historically owned this in-state rivalry, winning 21 of the 25 all-time matchups.
