Michigan men's and women's basketball to play in Jumpman Invitational in 2022

The Michigan men's and women's basketball teams will partake in the newly created Jumpman Invitational, a multiteam tournament created by Jordan Brand and the Charlotte Sports Foundation, the foundation announced Thursday morning.

The Wolverines, along with Florida, North Carolina and Oklahoma — "the original four teams to sign partnership deals with Jordan Brand in both basketball and football," the foundation said in a statement — will partake in the inaugural tournament in 2022 between Dec. 20-21.

The tournament will be played at the Spectrum Center, home to the Charlotte Hornets, and will feature two games per night, all of which will be on ESPN.

Interestingly enough, the possibility exists for the Wolverines to play the Tar Heels for a fifth time in six years. The two teams are scheduled to meet in Chapel Hill this season as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge; Michigan and North Carolina previously played each other as part of the challenge in 2017 and 2018, before the two teams met at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas in 2019 as well.

The Wolverines' partnership with Nike began Aug. 1, 2016, and includes use of Jordan Brand apparel for several teams.
