Michigan football announces annual spring game date

Michigan football fans won’t have to go too long without football, it appears.

As the team slogs through the winter conditioning period, spring practice is right around the corner. And with spring practice comes the spring game, the culmination of weeks worth of offseason work.

The last time that the Wolverines took the field in front of fans was on Dec. 31 in the College Football Playoff at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl in a devastating loss to TCU. But, just four months later, fans will get to see the maize and blue in action, as the Michigan football Twitter account announced that the spring game will take place on April 1.

While there are no details along with the announcement, it’s fair to presume that said spring game will take place at Michigan Stadium and will be open to fans.

There was no open spring game in 2019, with the reasoning being weather, and thus the game was held behind closed doors. It was canceled in 2020 (as was all of spring practice) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was, again, behind closed doors in 2021. It resumed in front of fans in 2022.

Spring practice is expected to commence later this month.
