Detroit Red Wings forward Michael Rasmussen was suspended two games by the NHL on Friday for high-sticking Boston Bruins center David Krejci during Thursday night's game at TD Garden.

The league explained its decision in the video below:

The play happened in the second period when Rasmussen hit Krejci and his stick swung up and caught the B's forward in the head.

Krejci left the game and didn't return. He won't play in Boston's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.

Rasmussen was given a two-minute minor penalty for high sticking as a result of the play.

The Bruins beat the Red Wings 5-1 to improve their record to a league-best 7-1-0.
