Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone on Tuesday praised the play of rookie Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland during the preseason and essentially confirmed he will have a large role this year.

Hyland through three preseason games is averaging 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal. He is coming off his best game, recording 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists on 6-of-12 shooting from 3-point range on Friday.

He currently ranks third in scoring and third in assists among all rookies.

The performance of Hyland to this point of the preseason earned him high praise by Malone and it may have ensured him a spot in the second unit off the bench, via Harrison Wind of DNVR.

Hyland has helped inject energy and effort into the lineup, and Nuggets guard Will Barton even called his presence a breath of fresh air. When the Nuggets selected him with the 26th pick, many believed the team may have gotten a bit of a steal considering some had him going higher in the draft.

With Jamal Murray likely out the entire season, the Nuggets may need to rely on Hyland a bit more. Fortunately, he appears to be a capable option off of the bench.

Denver returns to action Wednesday versus the Oklahoma City Thunder.
