Miami Heat pay tribute to victims of Parkland shooting (Video)

Before their home game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night, the Miami Heat paid tribute to the 17 lives lost in the recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

A moment of silence was held for the victims and guard Dwyane Wade, now back in Miami after stints in Chicago and Cleveland, offered a statement to those on hand at American Airlines Arena.

“Tonight we honor the 17 lives that were tragically lost in Parkland,” Wade said. “We applaud the fearless students that are fighting for their lives. We also make sure that their voices are heard around gun safety. You are our nation’s inspiration. We salute you and we support you.”

After Wade spoke, a video tribute to the victims was played and Alex Wind, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, sang the national anthem.

Saturday night’s game was the Heat’s first at home since the Feb. 14 incident. The team will wear a “MSD” patch on their uniforms for the rest of the season.
