Ronald D. Vitiello, the acting deputy commissioner at Customs and Border Protection, says that the agency is planning to start building the prototypes of the Mexico border wall during the summer. These prototypes will be built on land that is already owned by the agency.

Customs and Border Protection are taking bids from several companies to have them build the Mexico border wall. A final company hasn’t been chosen yet. The requirements of the agency are that the wall can’t be easily scaled, it will go six feet underground to prevent digging under it, and that it will look appealing on the side facing the United States.

Customs and Border Protection are using $20 million to build the prototypes of the Mexico border wall. The wall won’t stretch across the entirety of the Mexico border. Some areas will be unable to have a wall due to bodies of water and rough terrain, reports The New York Times.

The area where Customs and Border Protection will be setting up the prototype Mexico border wall will be near San Diego. The agency is looking to test out between four to eight different prototype walls in the area.

There is still conflict over how the government will pay for the Mexico border wall. President Trump claims that Mexico will cover the cost, but the country says this won’t be the case. Current estimates have the border wall price ranging from $15 billion to $66 billion.
