STORY: Soccer fans returned to Victoria stadium in Mexico's central state of Aguascalientes on Friday (October 16) for the first match of Mexico's Liga MX open to spectators since lockdown forced stadiums to close.
Under strict protocols, fans got their body temperature taken upon entry into the stadium and sanitised their hands. The stadium is also at 50% capacity, in keeping with social distancing norms.
Fans were grateful to return to the stadium, to cheer on local teams Necaxa and Tijuana.
But in spite of the restrictions in place, some fans were spotted without face masks and in groups of more than two, the maximum allowed, inside the stadium.
Mexican health authorities have warned that the pandemic is not over. As of Saturday (October 17), Mexico has registered over 842,000 coronavirus cases and more than 85,000 deaths.
