Mets' Starling Marte goes 1-for-4 with RBI double in Winter League action

Mets outfielder Starling Marte, batting second and playing right field, once again had a good night at the plate in Wednesday’s winter ball action despite his Leones del Escogido’s 4-3 loss to Gigantes del Cibao.

Marte finished 1-for-4 with his lone hit being an opposite-field double in the third inning that drove in a run to tie the game at 1-1. The ball tailed toward the right-field line, beating the streaking right fielder, and hopped to the wall.

In his first at-bat, Marte hit a flyout to left field with nobody on. After his double, the outfielder grounded out to second base to end the inning with a runner in scoring position, leaving him stranded. He struck out in the seventh and was left on deck during the final out.

Marte has now played in 10 games during winter ball in his native Dominican Republic as the 35-year-old continues to try and put a disappointing and injury-riddled 2023 season behind him.
