In his latest 2021 MLB Mock Draft, MLB Pipeline's Jonathan Mayo has the Mets selecting Sam Houston State's Colton Cowser at No. 10 overall.

Mayo says that there could be a debate between Cowser and Boston College's Sam Frelick if both are on the board for the Mets, with Frelick offering more speed compared to Cowser's power strength. But Mayo has Frelick going to the Rockies at No. 8, leaving Cowser for the Mets two picks later.

In his third season at Sam Houston State, Cowser is currently raking with a .354/.475/.646 slashline with 13 homers, seven doubles and 40 RBI over 45 games. He's also a career .345 hitter with a .451 on-base percentage -- absurd numbers at the dish.

An outfielder, Cowser can bounce around wherever needed, though he mostly plays in right field. He has played center and left during his college career, and even third base with 20 games in 2019.

Cowser, who stands at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, was also a member of Team USA's Collegiate National Team in 2019. He led that team with nine runs and was MVP of the Cuba series that year after hitting .438 with a co-leading seven hits and six runs scored.

In his previous mock, Mayo had the Mets going the pitching route with Ole Miss' Gunnar Hogland being taken.
