The Mets announced they have renewed the contracts of Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil, while agreeing to terms with 15 other players ahead of the 2021 season.

What it basically means with the renewal of Alonso's and McNeil's contract is both players wanted more money for the season, but the Mets declined to give it to them.

Alonso and McNeil still have more arbitration years left, as both of them won't be free agents until 2025. Since they've become integral parts of the Mets, though, it would be hard to see them reach that without getting extended.
