Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, coming off a huge game on Monday night where he crushed two homers and reached base five times, posted on Instagram on Tuesday and was met with some criticism from an Aaron Judge supporter.
"Gotta keep pushing forward and grinding it out! Every day is a new opportunity to write your own story #LFGM," Alonso wrote under an image of him about to connect during Monday night's game.
That apparently offended the sensibilities of Instagram user @jackterrt1224, who wrote this in the comments:
"So overrated. One year wonder. Pitchers have caught up petey, you'll never be anything like Judge."
Alonso's retort was brief and to the point:
"Sorry I'm swimming in your dome lol," Alonso wrote.
The Alonso vs. Judge debate has been raging since last season, when Alonso broke Judge's single-season rookie record for home runs.
In 2019, Judge hit .272/.381/.540 with 27 homers in 102 games as he was limited due to injury.
Judge began the 2020 season on fire, and was hitting .290/.343/.758 with nine homers in 17 games before suffering a calf strain that landed him on the IL.
Alonso hit .260/.358/.583 with 53 homers in 161 games last season.
So far in 2020, Alonso -- who started slowly -- is hitting .241/.359/.448 with five homers in 22 games.
