Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil continues to improve and could begin a rehab assignment this week, according to people familiar with the plan.

McNeil has been on the injured list since May 17 with a hamstring strain. He could be playing in Triple-A Syracuse within a few days before returning to the Mets.

Outfielder Albert Almora Jr. (left shoulder strain) will begin a rehab assignment for Syracuse Tuesday night, per sources.
