PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets are hoping this one isn’t too serious.

Two days after losing Edwin Diaz for the season due to a freak knee injury, they got another scare on Friday night when Brandon Nimmo hurt his right ankle while making an awkward slide at second base against the Miami Marlins.

It looked bad initially, as Nimmo was in obvious pain, unable to get to his feet at first before eventually limping off the field.

Nimmo will get an MRI on Saturday, but Buck Showalter made it sound as if it’s more precautionary than anything because Nimmo is optimistic that he only rolled the ankle after catching a spike in the ground as he began his slide.

“He feels pretty good,” Showalter said.

The manager admitted that it looked worse when it first happened, especially so soon after the injury to Diaz during the WBC celebration Wednesday night.

“It crosses your mind,’’ Showalter said. “We’re all human beings. But it seems … we’ll hope for good results tomorrow (with the MRI) but so far, so good. He seems to be pretty positive about it.”

Nimmo wasn’t made available to reporters Friday night. The Mets said that he would address the injury on Saturday.
