While Red Wolves, Warriors and Redtails have emerged as favorites for the Washington Football Team's new nickname, other names are popping up –– including the recently coined D.C. Metropolitans.
On Monday, Bleacher Report released a list of names for the Washington Football Team for fans to vote on, but besides the previously noted Redtails and Red Hogs, Metropolitans arose as a new possible alternative.
While NBC Sports Washington has broken down some of the best fan-generated designs for Warriors, Red Wolves and Redhawks, this dark horse nickname entered the discussion with few logos and uniforms created by fans yet.
However, according to Bleacher Report, the name stems from the D.C. Metro train system that navigates the entire DMV area. By choosing this name, the team would bring together fans from all three regions in one local team.
The hypothetical logo showcases a burgundy and gold Metro car riding above the team and city name.
While many have become loyal to their favorite replacement names already, Metropolitans and others could continue to arise as new fan-favorites.
