In the past year, you’ve probably tried to master an at-home mani (or two, or three, or 20). And chances are, the whole process may have gone off the rails. After all, things usually do when you try to be your own nail tech.
But never fear — Elmer’s glue is here to save the day. Seriously.
In the latest episode of Pretty Beautiful, video producer Lisa Azcona explains how to do this craft glue hack that helps you clean up a messy at-home manicure. All you need is Elmer’s glue, a small brush, nail polish and, yes, a tiny bit of patience.
To try the hack for yourself, dip a small brush into some Elmer’s glue and paint the glue on the skin surrounding your nail. (You know, the part that always seems to collect swipes of stray polish.) Just make sure you don’t get any of the glue on your actual nails. That’s a recipe for a ruined manicure.

Once the glue is dry, paint your nails as you normally would with you favorite nail polish. Once your nails are looking sleek, peel off the Elmer’s glue layer you applied.
“It’s kind of oddly satisfying to do this,” Lisa says.
Finally, you are left with with neatly painted nails. Well, sort of. Lisa admits this hack takes practice, but you can nail some top-notch results on the first go.
“This hack totally takes the pressure off always painting inside the lines, which honestly feels great because I’m not the best at painting my own nails,” Lisa says. “They didn’t come out 100% perfect, but they still look really nice.”
The glue can leave a little residue, according to Lisa. She advises to wash your hands and moisturize after removing the glue. Take it from a newly-minted at-home mani pro.
