Menorah-topped cars to parade through Milford, Medway, Franklin and Wrentham

MILFORD — The Chabad House Jewish Community Center is sponsoring a car menorah parade on Sunday to celebrate the 2021 Hanukkah season.

The parade departs from Chabad, 34 Cedar St., and travels to Choate Park in Medway (3:30 p.m.) then to the Franklin Town Common (4:15 p.m.) and finally to Gilly's House in Wrentham (5 p.m.), according to Rabbi Mendy Kivman, co-director of the Chabad House.

The parade route will travel via Route 109, including Village Street in Medway, Lincoln Street in Franklin and King Street in Wrentham in a Hanukkah celebration promoting holiday awareness.

At each stop, the group will light the Giant Public Menorah, enjoy Hanukkah treats and hear holiday wishes from government officials.

The parade is part of a worldwide Hanukkah campaign, an initiative launched by the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, in 1973. It highlights and encourages the central theme of the holiday — publicizing the story of the Hanukkah miracle.

The public display of Hanukkah has become a staple of Jewish cultural and religious life. This year, Chabad-Lubavitch will set up more than 15,000 large public menorahs in more than 100 countries throughout the world, including in front of landmarks such as the White House, the Eiffel Tower and the Kremlin.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins this year on Sunday night and concludes on the evening of Monday, Dec. 6. It recalls the victory of a militarily weak Jewish people over the Syrian-Greeks, who had overrun ancient Israel and sought to impose restrictions on the Jewish way of life and prohibit religious freedom.

The Chabad Center offers Jewish education, outreach and social service programming for families and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and affiliations.
