Men’s basketball: Gophers game at Illinois on Tuesday postponed due to COVID protocols
The Gophers men’s basketball team’s game Tuesday at Illinois has been postponed after the Minnesota program was been hit with COVID-19, the U said Monday.
Minnesota has been down to eight scholarship players because of injuries in recent weeks and now adherence to COVID health and safety protocols will keep the team from playing the Illini at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill.
The Big Ten Conference, Minnesota and Illinois “will work together to identify possible rescheduling dates,” the U said.
Minnesota’s next scheduled game is noon Sunday against Iowa at Williams Arena.
The Gophers have not had COVID-19 affect games this season, but Indiana coach Mike Woodson contracted the coronavirus and missed the Hoosiers’ 61-57 victory over Minnesota at The Barn on Jan. 25. Associate head coach Yasir Rosemond filled in for Woodson that game.
