Chaos ensued late in the second quarter of Monday's Kansas City Chiefs win over the New England Patriots. With Kansas City leading, 6-3, and facing third-and-4 near midfield, the Patriots got pressure on quarterback Patrick Mahomes on a dropback. Defensive end Chase Winovich got to Mahomes first, and Mahomes lost the ball as New England pass rushers converged.
Don't celebrate without Aaron Rodgers. Not that he'd let you anyway. Rodgers, after getting left out of a touchdown celebration in the Green Bay Packers' “Monday Night Football” matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, hilariously celebrated by himself in the end zone of Lambeau Field.
And in Sunday night's win over the 49ers, Jackson flexed his experience with a truly genius veteran move during the dramatic final minutes. With the ball at the 1-yard line and the Eagles up by 11, the game's refs were trying to suss out exactly where to place the football as the 49ers attempted to punch the ball into the end zone. When the refs turned away from the ball for just a second to speak with the other members of their crew, Jackson pounced: That is some next-level defensive play from Jackson.
Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia has had more than two seasons to turn his team into the winners he promised it'd be. The Lions are 1-3 and they allowed the New Orleans Saints to score 35 unanswered points against them on Sunday. Patricia is always full of excuses, and he gave a doozy during his news conference following the Lions' 35-29 loss to the Saints.
And we score points, and we score points in a lot of different ways. We've got Ben that scores points, we have Joel, we have Tobias Harris , we have Shake (Milton), we have Josh (Richardson). This team's loaded with talent and we've just gotta figure out how to make it work the best.
Driver Luca Corberi had a full-blown meltdown after crashing out of Sunday's World Karting Championship. The Italian star ripped off his car's bumper and threw it into oncoming traffic before tackling and punching one of his opponents after the race ended. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has opened an investigation into Corberi, but the 23-year-old has already apologized for his behavior and vowed to never race again.
Giancarlo Stanton and the Bronx Bombers made themselves right at home in Petco Park on a warm October evening in Southern California. Stanton hit a grand slam in the ninth inning for New York's fourth home run of the game, and the Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-3 on Monday in the opener of their AL Division Series at Petco Park. Stanton homered to straightaway center field on a 2-2 pitch from John Curtiss.
Fans aren't feeling Kyle Kuzma this year, with some even creating a Change.org petition that says he shouldn't get a ring if the Lakers clinch the NBA Finals. It's clear that some fans feel like Kuzma has failed to live up to expectations that Los Angeles had for him, and that he's a liability to the team. “Kyle Kuzma is a f*ckboi and he shouldn't get a ring if the LA Lakers win the 2020 NBA Finals,” the petition reads.
Tate caught the ball short of the line of scrimmage where Ramsey met him. The Rams Pro Bowl cornerback known more for his elite coverage skills delivered a hit on Tate that would have made the late, great Sean Taylor proud, driving the Giants receiver into the ground 4 yards short of the line of gain. It was a violent, legal hit.
Two days after they called Adrian Killins Jr. up from the practice squad, the Eagles have waived the speedy undrafted rookie from UCF. Killins (5-8, 177) will hit the waiver wire and if he doesn't get claimed could end up back on the Eagles' practice squad. On Sunday, Killins made his NFL debut but it wasn't one to remember.
The Houston Texans have officially parted ways with head coach Bill O'Brien as of Monday, following an 0-4 start to the season. Texans Chairman and CEO Cal McNair issued a statement in wake of the announcement, thanking O'Brien for his contributions and announcing that Romeo Crennel will serve as the interim head coach. Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan had some input on the situation, sharing in a tweet reply to ESPN'S Adam Schefter and Dan Graziano on Monday afternoon.
Premier League clubs embarked on a final flurry of spending on Monday before the international transfer window slammed shut. Manchester United and Arsenal made the biggest headlines on deadline day with deals for Edinson Cavani and Thomas Partey respectively. Heading into the final days of the transfer window, it seemed Jurgen Klopp's desires had been well catered for as he bolstered a squad that powered to the title last term and won the Champions League just two seasons ago.
Mock Draft 8.0: Celtics add needed scoring, size in Round 1 originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The Boston Celtics season didn't have the kind of storybook ending that so many of its green-and-white clad followers were hoping for. As the disappointment of coming up short of bringing home another title settles in, the focus soon shifts towards how to be better for next season, a season whose start — much like Boston's place in the Eastern Conference hierarchy next season — remains uncertain. They'll be good, but will they be good enough to be the last team standing?
Don't worry, not even Tyler Herro knows where that face came from on Sunday night. Herro, after sinking a layup in the final minute of their 115-104 win against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, broke out a wild mean mug snarl. I've never really made that face before' That face, Herro said on Monday, was a new one.
For the second Grand Slam in succession a line judge was in the firing line from Novak Djokovic but on Monday it did not cost the Serb anything more than an anxious moment. Top seed Djokovic lunged to make a service return in the eighth game against Karen Khachanov in their French Open fourth-round clash and the ball ricocheted off his frame and straight into the head of a male line judge. On that occasion Djokovic swiped a ball behind him towards the backstop after losing a point and inadvertently hit a female line judge in the throat -- leaving tournament officials no choice but to disqualify him.
Kelly Olynyk might play no minutes for the Miami Heat on Thursday, a scenario that popped up twice in the last three games of the Eastern Conference finals. Or he might play meaningless minutes, like what he got in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. This is Olynyk's mandate as a Heat player: Be ready, sometimes for nothing, sometimes for everything.
Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed have both won majors. Both have won on the PGA Tour this year, and both are likely to factor in U.S. team events for years to come. They're also both betting favorites this week, albeit on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
Had C.J. Beathard started for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles might be winless through the first quarter of the season. If there was ever an argument for eliminating automatic playoff berths for the division winners, it's the 2020 NFC East. Through four games, the four NFC East teams have combined for three wins, and one came when the Washington Football Team beat the Eagles.
The Green Bay Packers needed someone to step forward when injuries left their top two wide receivers unavailable. Tonyan caught three of Aaron Rodgers' four touchdown passes, Za'Darius Smith recorded three sacks and the Packers remained unbeaten with a 30-16 victory over the winless Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. ''I just had to continue to do what I've been doing, just keep playing well and stick to the game plan,'' Tonyan said.
