Late Melendez homer leads Royals past White Sox for 3rd straight win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals have continued to show promise to start the season, winning their third straight game over the Chicago White Sox.

The game was scoreless in a pitching duel between Royals starter Michael Wacha and White Sox starter Chris Flexen before an MJ Melendez two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning gave the Royals the lead.

It is the second straight game Melendez came up in the clutch, after hitting a go-ahead single in the eighth inning last night.

The Royals tacked on another run after a Maikel Garcia pop-up single that brought in Dairon Blanco to go up 3-0.

Wacha had an impressive day on the mound for the Royals. He went seven innings, allowing only two hits, zero runs, one walk, and eight strikeouts.

The Royals have had one of the best starting rotations in the MLB to start the season.

With the win, the Royals move above .500 for the first time since two seasons ago, on April 10, 2022, when they were 2-1.

They are now 5-4 and captured the series win. They will look to close out the series and continue their momentum against the White Sox tomorrow at 1:10 p.m.
