For the record: The GCC opener features two teams that many feel could be the top two teams in the league. The visiting Bees, coached by Fairport alum Larry Laird, feature a high-scoring offense led by senior QB Danny Stoddard. He threw for 366 yards last week against Medina, with Austin Knowles catching four touchdown passes. The Cardinals have a fine quarterback of their own in junior Scotty Fox, who ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing for 214 in last week's loss to Riverside. ... Both teams' defenses will be in the spotlight here. With two electric offenses matching up, this could be a high-scoring game. ... Mentor leads the all-time series, 10-2, including two playoff meetings, but Medina has won the last two regular-season meetings.
