Meadow Bridge, Midland Trail boys notch victories

Meadow Bridge 53

Pocahontas County 50

The Wildcats rallied from a 27-21 halftime disadvantage and broke a four-game losing streak by easing past visiting Pocahontas County 53-50 on Jan. 5.

Brycen Sawyers scored 16 points to highlight a balanced Meadow Bridge offense. Kaiden Sims donated 11 points, Trent Roles 10 and Cordell McClung nine for the Wildcats.

Matthew McQuain bucketed 21 to lead the Warriors.

Pocahontas County

Sissonville 65

Midland Trail 59

Host Sissonville secured a six-point win, 65-59, over Midland Trail on Friday, Jan. 5. The loss was the first of the season for the Patriots (6-1).

Four players reached double figures in the scoring column for Midland Trail. Justin Cooper tallied 13 points, Payton Bailes and Thad Brown netted 12 each, and Eli Campbell scored 11.

Also providing offense were: Levi Skaggs, 3; Jaden Gladwell, 2; and Landon Syner, 6.

Brown secured nine rebounds and Syner grabbed seven. Gladwell supplied five assists and a pair of steals.

The Patriots were slated to play at Sherman on Jan. 9. They visit Nicholas County on Friday, Jan. 12.

Midland Trail 64

Greater Beckley Christian 48

Justin Cooper scored 20 points and claimed seven rebounds as Midland Trail remained unbeaten on Jan. 2 with a 64-48 victory over Greater Beckley Christian.

Payton Bailes and Eli Campbell both hit three 3-pointers and finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Patriots.

Thad Brown hauled down 17 rebounds for Trail, and he and Jaden Gladwell each assisted on five goals.

Keegan Davidson scored a game-high 21 points for the Crusaders. Aaron Hall added 10.

Midland Trail

Harmony Mills had another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for visiting Independence in a 38-33 win over Midland Trail on Jan. 5.

Lacey Goodson scored a game-high 18 points for Independence.

Raelyn Morris scored 13 for Midland Trail (5-6), and Jayla Barnhouse added 10.
