He's the most recent winner of this event at Kiawah Island, and he was a winner in his most recent start. So it's no surprise to see Rory McIlroy head into PGA Championship week as the betting favorite.
McIlroy cruised to victory on the Ocean Course back in 2012, winning his second of four major titles by eight shots. He's also coming off a drought-breaking victory at the Wells Fargo Championship, his first in 18 months and third career win at Quail Hollow. So heading to another venue where he has had some recent success, he's topping the odds chart at PointsBet Sportsbook. McIlroy was listed at +1600 before that Wells Fargo win, then got down as low as +1000 and has now settled at +1100. That puts him ahead of Jon Rahm, in search of his first career major, and Jordan Spieth, who's looking for the final leg of the career Grand Slam.
Dustin Johnson is further back at +1700, as the world No. 1 looks to bounce back from a knee injury that led to his withdrawal from the AT&T Byron Nelson. Defending PGA champ Collin Morikawa is listed at +2500, followed closely by reigning Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama at +2800.
