What started out as a conversation between father and son about where the oldest child in the family would be living next year in Iowa City turned into a verbal commitment for the Iowa basketball program.
Fran McCaffery was filling in Patrick McCaffery about the living situation next year for Connor McCaffery, who is currently a freshman at the University of Iowa playing basketball and baseball for the Hawkeyes.
It ended up with Patrick McCaffery making official what nearly everyone figured would eventually happen, that the four-star prospect in the Class of 2019 would be a Hawkeye and play for his father and with his older brother.
“We were talking about the house that Connor is going to live in next year with some other guys and he said that Connor would be living there and eventually that I would be living there too. Then I brought up and asked if it was ok to commit and he said, yeah but I have to call my mother first,” Patrick McCaffery said. “He asked me if I wanted to do it tomorrow and I said let’s just do it today, so I called my mom and she was very happy and then I called my AAU coach to let him know. After that I just tweeted it out.”
