MBB Recap: Oregon Ducks get last-second victory over Oregon State

The Oregon Ducks certainly didn’t make it easy on themselves, but in the end, they left Corvallis with a victory over the Oregon State Beavers.

Oregon held as big as a 10-point lead during the second half of the game, but once again, they left the door open for the Beavers to come back and eventually take the lead late in the game. Fortunately, a last-second shot from Rivaldo Soares gave the Ducks a two-point victory on the road.

While it is a critical win in terms of Pac-12 tournament seeding, it’s hard to imagine that it will do much in terms of NCAA Tournament resume-building. After losses to both Washington and Washington State last weekend, it seems that the Ducks need a Pac-12 championship in order to get to March Madness.

Regardless, it was a great win on Saturday night. Here’s how everything went down.

Final Score: Oregon Ducks 69, Oregon State Beavers 67

Keys to the game

  • The Ducks got off to a hot offensive start, knocking down 2 of their first 3 three-point attempts and getting a couple of offensive rebound baskets as well, jumping out to a 12-7 lead early on.

  • Oregon State put up a fight. After getting some tough buckets to fall and settling into the first half, the Beavers tied it up at 25-25.

  • While the Ducks started hot from the field, they quickly turned cold while Oregon State got back into the game, going 2-for-13 and allowing the Beavers to take the lead.  However, a pair of 3s from the Ducks put them up at half, 35-29.

  • The Ducks came out firing in the second half, quickly stretching it to a 45-35 lead. Oregon had multiple chances to extend the lead, but instead let the Beavers come back and make it a 4-point game.

  • The Beavers eventually game back and took the lead with under 10 minutes remaining, leading to a spark from the Ducks that put Oregon back on top, with the two teams battling back and forth.

  • With 3:02 in the game, Jermaine Couisnard fouled out with 12 points for the Ducks.

  • The Beavers eventually went up 65-60 with over 2 minutes remaining. Oregon eventually battled back to tie the game at 67-67, and Rivaldo Soares hit a game-winner with 0.7 seconds remaining.
