Will Max Muncy and Alex Bregman produce big numbers in 2023?

Yahoo Fantasy's Scott Pianowski and Andy Behrens explain why fantasy managers should grab both players this season.

Video Transcript

SCOTT PIANOWSKI: We're talking conviction plays. We're talking third base. I'm Scott. That's Andy. And Andy's got a Dodger for us.

ANDY BEHRENS: Yeah, give me Max Muncy. First of all, you can play him at second or third, that's great. Positional flexibility is always something we appreciate.

Also, he's reached 35 homers three times in his career. He's only 32 years old. Maybe you were disappointed by the numbers last year, but this isn't somebody who's obviously in the decline phase of his career. I'm not going to promise you a stellar batting average, but the new shift rules are going to help them a bunch. Muncy was one of the most shifted against players in baseball last year.

Also, the Dodgers lineup is an absolute gift, and Muncy is going to have a privileged spot in it. He has on-base skills, he has pop, he is a prime bounce back candidate. I think you're probably getting 90 runs, 28, 30 homers, 80 RBIs, and an average that isn't going to sink you.

SCOTT PIANOWSKI: If you don't draft three or four guys, you don't think you're going to improve this year because of the shift, you're doing it wrong. And Muncy's certainly high on that list. I will take a right-handed batter for my conviction play. I'll take Alex Bregman.

Last year, coming into the season off wrist surgery, he didn't hit for about 10 weeks. But look at those final 91 games, 288, 16 homers, 60 runs, 63 RBIs, that's top 15 numbers. And Houston's got a super deep lineup. Bregman is priced outside the top 70 in ADP.

Maybe people are just fatigued with the Astros, the cheating scandal, they've won a little bit too much. Alex Bregman is still a star. You don't have to pay star prices. Go draft him in a Yahoo Fantasy league today.
