Mavs G Hardaway undergoes leg surgery

Dallas Mavericks guard Tim Hardaway Jr. had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his lower left tibia, the team announced Thursday.

Hardaway, who missed the final 11 games of the regular season, hopes to return for basketball activities before training camp starts in September. The Mavericks indicated that Hardaway, 27, will begin rehabilitation immediately.

The veteran who just finished his sixth season in the league was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the New York Knicks on Jan. 31 that also sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavs.

Hardaway averaged 15.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 19 games with Dallas. He had two tenures with the Knicks, starting his NBA career there from 2013-15, then playing two seasons for the Atlanta Hawks.

Hardaway has career averages of 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists over 403 games (179 starts).

The Mavericks finished 2018-19 with a 33-49 regular-season record, failing to make the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
