"Virginia Tech wide receiver commit Tre Turner isn't the only star in Greensboro (N.C.) Northwest Guilford's 2018 class. Defensive end Mason Wilfong has also shown ability on the gridiron. Last weekend, the 6-6, 215-pounder headed to Blacksburg with Turner to see the Hokies in action.

He got a chance to check out a lot of the facilities on campus before the game, and liked what he saw.

"I got to see the football facility, like the locker room, indoor practice field, and players’ lounge," he explained. "I think the indoor practice facility is the most impressive part of that."

Virginia Tech is the only school Wilfong has visited in the past - thanks to his friendship with Turner, it's been a pretty regular destination - though he hasn't had the opportunity talk with the Hokies' coaching staff.

He'll have more opportunities to see VT, though, and possibly as early as this weekend. Turner will be back in town for tomorrow evening's game against Clemson, and that could mean an opportunity for Wilfong to take the trip as well.

"I’ve gone to UNC with Tré Turner before his commitment," Wilfong said of his past visits, then added, "I’ll probably end up going back to VT with him at some point this fall."

With a good friend headed to Blacksburg in January (Turner plans to enroll early at Virginia Tech), Wilfong at the very least will become very comfortable with campus.
