Maroons swing for the fences in huge opening win over Wayne

Mar. 12—The Pulaski County Maroons, defending regional champions, kicked off their 2024 campaign in style on Monday night with a trip down to Monticello to take on the Wayne County Cardinals. If Monday was any indication, it is going to be a fun season for the Maroons, as they walloped their opponents by a final score of 15-1 after leading 5-0 after the first inning.

Braden Hampton led the Maroons with seven RBI's including a grand slam in the first inning. Jacob Todd and Carter Ross each had three RBI's apiece, with Keegan Measel and Bryce Cowell each hitting one. Ross, Measel, Hampton and Owen Stevens each had doubles in the win as well. Mason Acton pitched four innings, allowing no runs and no hits to go along with 10 strikeouts, while Chance Todd earned the win, closing out the final inning with two walks and a strikeout. Wayne's lone RBI was hit by junior Jentry Keith.

Pulaski starts out the season 1-0 and will face off against Clinton County in their home opener on Thursday at 6 p.m.
