Stoneman Douglas football team to work as stand-ins for Fox ahead of Super Bowl
A few days before the NFL world converges on Hard Rock Stadium in Miami for the Super Bowl, Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School football team will get its own Super Bowl experience.
The players from Stoneman Douglas — a high school located about an hour northwest of Miami that was the site of a mass shooting in 2018 — will work as stand-ins on Jan. 31, three days before the Super Bowl, so that Fox can check its camera angles for the broadcast.

While it’s not clear exactly what they will be doing just yet, Stoneman Douglas coach Quentin Short said his team will get to run out from the tunnels, stand on the sidelines and run plays on the field while Fox tweaks its cameras to ensure it’s ready for the game.
“They are really excited,” Short said, via the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “Should be an awesome experience.”
The Eagles went 8-2 this season and won the District 13-8A title, their first since 2001, per the Sun Sentinel.
On Feb. 14, 2018, 17 people were killed and another 17 were injured at Stoneman Douglas when a former student opened fire inside the school. Assistant football coach Aaron Feis and athletic director Chris Hixon were among those killed in the mass shooting. The incident has since sparked the “March For Our Lives” movement, an organization focused on combating gun violence in the United States.
