Marisa Tomei Hit the Women’s March in a Colin Kaepernick Tee

The actress paid tribute to the man who ignited the #TakeaKnee movement.

Yesterday, the third annual Women’s March took place across the globe, with the biggest turn-outs in the nation occurring in cities like New York and Los Angeles. In the latter location, several celebrity speakers joined the cause, which called for change on a number of issues including women’s and LGBTQ rights, gender and racial equality, health care, and more. Marisa Tomei was one such speaker. The actress has been quite vocal and active with the march in past years, and this year, she chose to wear a T-shirt that, upon closer inspection, had an even deeper tie-in to the event.

Seen marching the streets, Tomei wore a white tee with a sketch of Colin Kaepernick on it. Kaepernick is the former NFL player and 49ers quarterback who ignited the #TakeaKnee movement, when, in 2016, he refused to stand during the national anthem to protest racial oppression in the U.S. By sporting his image, Tomei was further standing for many of the issues that the Women’s March continues to tackle: the ongoing fight against racial injustice.

Tomei’s shirt is a unisex style by The Outrage, titled “Colin Kaepernick is a Hero.” A portion of its sale proceeds directly benefits the American Civil Liberties Union, a nonprofit civil rights organization. In other words, it’s a political statement tee backed up by real action.
