Remember when former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost said it was hard to recruit to Eugene, Oregon?
That’s super funny now because Mario Cristobal has made Oregon a top choice for many elite high school prospects not just on the west coast but coast-to-coast.
On this National Signing Day, the Ducks have officially signed all 21 commits from the early signing period that began in December and two more on Wednesday morning: four-star running back Byron Cardwell and the nation’s No. 8 corner Avante Dickerson.
Cristobal has signed the No. 1 recruiting class in the Pac-12 conference (for the third year in a row) and the No. 6 class in the national rankings.
But it sounds like he’s not done yet.
Cristobal explained more during a coaches live signing day video breaking down the incoming class. (Fast-forward to 51:27 for Cristobal).
“So saving a spot for a special talent. I think we’re going to see some unbelievable dividends pay off because of the efforts of everybody.”

A special talent you say? Who could it be?
The first player that comes to mind is the nation’s No. 1 overall player of the 2021 class J.T. Tuimoloau.
The five-star, 6’4”, 275-pound defensive end from Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington is still undecided and won’t make his final decision and announcement until April. On December 16, 2020, Tuimoloau named his final five schools in his recruitment process.
Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Washington and Oregon.
Should the Ducks land Tuimoloau, then Oregon would have signed the top prospect from eight different states. That’s incredible.
Oregon HC @coach_cristobal notes that the Ducks have the No. 1 prospect from seven different states.
Arizona - Ty Thompson
Colorado - Terrance Ferguson
Nebraska - Avante Dickerson
Nevada - Moliki Matavao
New York - Seven McGee
Oregon - Keith Brown
Utah - Kingsley Suamataia

We’ll soon find out if that “special talent” Cristobal is talking about is Tuimoloau in April…
