Marine City football coach Daryn Letson is a finalist for the 2021 Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Year award.

"It's really a credit to everybody that's involved in the program," Letson said. "This isn't my show. This is a culmination of everyone really."

Letson's Mariners are 13-0 this season and will face Grand Rapids Catholic Central in the Division 5 state final Saturday at Ford Field.

The winner will be determined by vote from five media panelists and an additional fan vote. Fans can cast their ballot on the Lions' website. Voting is currently open and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday.

The winning coach receives a $3,000 donation to their football program. They'll also be the Lions' candidate for the Don Shula NFL High School Football Coach of the Year award.

"You get these nominations because you have a quality team and the kids have done an outstanding job," Letson said. "You also get these nominations because you have an outstanding staff as well that helps you along.

"For anyone to think that, you know, I'm the guy behind all this is not with it. There's plenty of guys on this staff that could all be head coaches and could really be the head coach here."
