Marcus Smart credits ‘short-term memory’ for Celtics’ improved play of late

Veteran Boston Celtics floor general Marcus Smart had plenty to say about his team’s improved play after the Celtics’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night. “I think a lot of times, we allow (shots) we didn’t make …  to affect our defense,” said the Flower Mound native of Boston’s recent rough play against inferior opponents via NBC Sports Boston.

“Then, because our defense was lacking, we try to come and force another shot,” suggested Smart. “Just having that short-term memory. If you’re open, shoot the ball. If you miss it, oh well, next play. You shoot it again, you get an open shot, you knock it down.”

“Once we start thinking like that, I think that took away a lot of the mishaps that we’ve been having,” he explained.

“Those little walls where it just seems like we couldn’t score the ball nor get to stop,” the Texan continued. “Dame went off. We still were able to keep our poise and respond.”
