SAN DIEGO — People freak out over Air Jordans — it’s been that way for years and it’s probably not changing anytime soon. That goes for regular people at home reading this or someone like Manny Machado.
Machado, the San Diego Padres star, arrived at his locker Friday at Petco Park with a surprise waiting for him. Machado was one of 11 Major League Baseball players who the Jordan brand gifted an exclusive military supply box full of gear. He howled in excitement as he opened the Jordan box exclusively with Yahoo Sports.
In it, he found: A pair of retro JRDN.BSBL Air Jordan 6s, in a special military-influenced design and color way with “Jordan Family” and “JMPMN 23” on the sock liner; a bomber jacket with Machado on the chest and a one-of-a-kind hoodie. The Jordans were individually numbered for each player. Machado’s were eight of 11.
The box came with his name stamped on the top and a happy Machado was quick to snap a picture of his latest pair of custom Jordan kicks.

After Machado surveyed his Jordan present, he was left with a sentiment plenty of sneaker collectors can relate to — to wear ‘em or not to wear ‘em?
“Probably never gonna wear those,” Machado said. “There’s only 11 of ‘em out there. Can’t wear that.”
