San Diego Padres star Manny Machado was issued a one-game suspension and a fine by MLB on Monday after his objection over a strike call led to his ejection over the weekend.
Machado fumed to umpire Bill Welke, slammed down his helmet and tossed his bat on Saturday during the Padres’ game against the Rockies. MLB decided Machado needed to be punished for “aggressively arguing and making contact” with Welke.

Machado is appealing the punishment, which means he can play until his appeal is heard. In his first year with the Padres, Machado is hitting .261 with 13 homers and 39 RBIs.
