Man shot on Green Line train in downtown St. Paul reports it happened during robbery

Someone shot and injured a man on a light-rail train in downtown St. Paul on Saturday night.

The 27-year-old reported he was being robbed on the Green Line train when he was shot in the stomach in the area of 12th and Robert streets about 7:30 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.

The suspect ran off the train. Metro Transit and St. Paul officers searched for the suspect, along with K-9s and the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, but hadn’t found him as of Saturday evening, Ernster said.

St. Paul Fire Department medics took the victim to Regions Hospital, where police said his injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing.

Buses replaced Green Line trains between the Union Depot and Robert Street stations during the search with train service resuming about 9 p.m.
