Man pops out of Inflatable Benny the Bull costume to pop question to Chicago Bulls dancer (Video)

Ball Don't Lie

If you are going to propose to your significant other at a live sporting event — and if you are, I salute your bravery, because the potential for stuff to go wrong (what if he/she misses the whole thing? what if he/she says no and it's not a hoax? what if it all oes up in flames in, like, the second quarter — do you up and leave, or do you stew in your own juices because you want to catch the rest of the game?) would prevent me from ever even thinking about it — then it's a good idea to endeavor to be creative about it.

Forget about the video board (if your favorite team will even let you do that). Get Magic Johnson or Luc Richard Mbah a Moute involved. Craft a cunning ruse involving a fake half-court shot contest. It's like that old saying: Go big or go home alone, unengaged and doomed to a life of quiet, miserable solitude. (TGIF, y'all.)

I must salute this gentleman, then, because working to get yourself inside the Inflatable Benny the Bull costume so that you can surprise your girlfriend, who happens to be a member of the Luvabulls, and pop the question at half-court during a break in the action of a nationally televised game between the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat ranks pretty highly on the creativity scale:

We've seen a version of this in the high school ranks before, but I believe this is the first such implementation at the pro level, as well as the first to involve the increasingly popular inflatable mascot. Adding the real — well, "real" — Benny the Bull in a clean white jacket was an especially nice touch, too; it really classed up the proceedings, you know?

The Luvabull-in-question reportedly said yes, kicking off what we can only hope is a long life together marked by love, compassion and a shared interest in inflatable mascot humor. Congratulations, you crazy kids.

The Bulls released a more in-depth look at Shane's proposal to Ariana on Friday afternoon:
