On Ohio State football

To Brian: Watching Ohio State football this year, I don't understand coach Day's thinking. He leaves C.J. Stroud in the game in the fourth quarter to bolster his numbers. Then he brings in the backup, who hands off for eight minutes. Injuries happen in football, and you don't want to be caught with your backup not having quality snaps. Kyle McCord threw two passes last week. Let him have drives and not worry about the other teams' feelings You are already up 35 points. What's another seven points? Michigan State kept playing till the end.

Dave Waller, Grove City

To Dave: There's a lot to like about this Ohio State team, but I count McCord's lack of action in two seasons as one of the Buckeyes' top two concerns. (Poor cornerback play is the other). If Stroud gets hurt, there has been nothing McCord has done to provide confidence that Ohio State can still compete for Big Ten or national title.

To the editor: Great quarterbacks are the straw that mixes the drink, and all special teams need one and they deserve protection while in the pocket. Whether the name is Tua, Tom or C.J., while they are in the pocket throwing they should be sacrosanct and not hit or tackled. Let them only be two-hand tagged only in the pocket. Without a fantastic quarterback, Ryan Day would be coaching the Toledo Rockets, making $50,000 a year, so dress the quarterbacks in pink petticoats if necessary but protect them from injury.

On football on TV

To the editor: Agree 100% with Rita Krasny's letter in The Dispatch. There has been only one game that we have been able to hear the TV announcers of the Ohio State football game over the noise of the crowd. Who do we let know about this?

Joanne Leathers

To the editor: Again, it was almost impossible to hear Kirk Herbstreit, etc., in the Michigan State vs. Ohio State game. When you wear hearing aids, it just sounds like garble and crowd noise. Why can’t they be calling it from a studio? Please reconsider this manner of presentation for the betterment of all. I love OSU football but am frustrated with this loud format.

Sylvia Bower, Powell

To the editor: Is Kirk Herbstreit paid by the word? His verbal diarrhea is thoroughly annoying.

Elizabeth Clark

To Joanne, Sylvia and Elizabeth: For Joanne and Sylvia, I recommend contacting WSYX (Channel 6), the local ABC station in town. For Elizabeth, I recommend going to Joanne's or Sylvia's house to watch the game, because you can't hear Herbstreit there.

On the Crew

Dear Editor: It seems to be a big mystery to the Crew management and the prior Crew coaching staff as to how all the late-game goals came about this last season. If you watch video of the late-game goals there are usually three or more Crew players not in the box but out closer to midfield (doing what?) in the last 2-3 minutes of the games when we should have had an “all hands on deck” policy and put every player in or very near the box to prevent the exact late-game goals that were our Achilles' heel this season. We didn’t need to score a goal in the last few minutes of the many games we lost or tied, we just needed to prevent our opponents from scoring. Good question for our next coach would be, " What is your plan to stop late-game goals?" If it doesn’t include every player in a tight defensive position, look at a different coach or it will be just the same song, different verse.Chet Ridenour, Worthington

To Chet: The fact that the same thing happened to the Crew over and over again only made Tim Bezbatchenko's decision to fire Caleb Porter easier. There was time to fix it, and nothing worked.
