Madison Bumgarner ejected, restrained by teammates after ump confrontation

Giants fans are well aware that Madison Bumgarner can run hot. On Wednesday, it reached a boiling point.

The former Giants ace-turned Arizona Diamondbacks starter was ejected and had to be restrained by teammates after pitching one inning in the D-backs' game against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park.

Bumgarner gave up a leadoff home run to Jon Berti but then retired the side in order after that. But the left-hander's frustrations appeared to start after he didn't get the call on a close pitch to Garrett Cooper. Bumgarner started to walk off the mound thinking it was strike three, only for it to be called a ball.

After the inning ended, Bumgarner got his hand checked by first base umpire Dan Bellino, who gave Bumgarner a long stare while doing the inspection. Bellino didn't even appear to look at Bumgarner's hand, but rather was waiting for a reaction from the pitcher instead.

Moments later, Bumgarner said something as he was walking away and immediately got tossed.

After struggling during his first two seasons with Arizona, Bumgarner has been pitching like the ace again so far this season, entering Wednesday's game with an excellent 1.17 ERA over five starts.

Even though he's wearing different colors now, Bumgarner will forever be revered in San Francisco for helping lead the Giants to three World Series titles from 2010-2014.
